About the Artist

An Arkansas artist, Jennifer Jones, is drawn to nature, animals and Native Americans. Growing up, she always had a pencil in her hand, drawing, doodling and trying enthusiastically to encompass what she saw onto paper.

She attended the University of Central Arkansas, where she studied fine arts, and fell in love with figure and portrait drawing. Years later, she tapped into her Native American ancestry, where she felt a deep connection with Native American portraits. A lot of her work consists of trying to bring the old portraits to life through pencil.

She has an intense passion for contrasts of lights against shadows, where she feels emotions lie just beneath the surface in that in between world. Most of her subjects convey emotion in some form, leaving the viewer to feel connected to certain pieces that speak to them. She does all this through the power of pencils.

She lives in Arkansas with her husband of 18 years, where they have three grown sons and several grandchildren. When she’s not drawing, she loves to travel, hike, keep fit while being a personal trainer, cook, read and watch old movies.
